A Few Announcements
Thanks for reading!
Hello everybody! First, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has read my work (whether here on Substack, Medium, or Pitcher List) over the past few seasons. It has been such a rewarding experience to not only research the trends shaping the current state of Major League Baseball but also to share these findings with a wide audience. I started writing about baseball with no intention of having any followers, and I’m grateful to everyone who has consistently followed and supported my work. From my first post about Alejandro Kirk in 2022 to the release of aBatting+ this past fall, I could not have asked for a more receptive audience from the baseball analytics community.
As I’ll be working for a Major League organization in 2026, this Substack will be on pause for the upcoming season. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this journey (there are truly too many people to list), and I am really looking forward to getting started on this next chapter!
I have been working on updates to the aPitching+ and aBatting+ models, so as a parting gift, I am going to release the leaderboards to these updated models, which will be attached to the bottom of this post. I’ll be keeping the specific adjustments to these models under wraps, but after the adjustments, these models are once again near the top of their class in terms of descriptive and predictive performance.
I have really enjoyed working with Statcast’s new bat tracking data over the past year, and I believe that there is still a lot of ground to cover on the public side regarding understanding how these variables interact to generate offensive production. In my opinion, metrics such as aSwing+ and aBatting+ have the potential to transform how the public evaluates hitters (similar to how Stuff+ revolutionized pitching analysis a few years ago), and I hope someone takes up the mantle of further developing these metrics on the public side. I’ll certainly be reading from afar!
Once again, I would like to thank everyone who has subscribed to this blog over the past few seasons. It has been such a rewarding experience to contribute to sabermetric research on the public side, and I am excited to get started on the next chapter. It has been a joy to share this work with everyone, and I’ll meet you further on up the road.
Thanks for reading!
